MY VISION
FOR OUR CITY

A thriving Invercargill which is an affordable and exciting place to live for all.

In recent years Invercargill has begun to flourish economically and by urban regeneration after decades of slow decline. We must maintain that positive momentum in our City but we must keep rates increases to a minimum. The only way those two conflicting objectives can be achieved is by improving efficiency of service delivery to make Invercargill a model in NZ for how more can be done with less

1. Rates must be kept at an affordable level

2. Council efficiency must be improved

A meaningful improvement target must be set which is visible and trackable by the public.

3. The use of consultants by council must be minimised and eliminated where possible

Let’s trust and have confidence in our own staff

4. No new building projects by Council funded from rates

We must make use of what buildings already stand, and repurpose them, especially heritage buildings.

5. An Art Gallery in the City in a repurposed building within three years

6. Tackle Youth unemployment by Council taking a proactive role with business to ensure no one is left behind.

7. Tackle the housing shortage by changes to the District Plan

This will encourage developers to build affordable homes, especially in the central city.

8. Establish a Three Waters in house delivery entity which achieves every water and waste quality requirement at minimum cost to the customer

9. Open the Museum on time and within budget.

10. Advocate with Government for the upgrade of the Bluff Highway to support economic development and the increasing use of SouthPort.

Let Invercargill Flourish
